Sweep Success

Let me preface this blog by saying I expected a sweep. For the Red Sox to finally beat out the Yankees for the division crown they needed to do this.  Two out of three wins was not good enough. Not is this series not with these pitching match-ups. It was not east, but a sweep is a sweep and it was a badly needed one.

This series was a war as most Red Sox/Yankees series are. It started with the improbable So 5-run rally off the Yankees bullpen including the incredible Mariano Rivera and ended with much maligned 2nd basemen Dustin Pedroia making a game-saving catch paving the way for Jonathan Papelbon to force a ground out by A-Rod to secure the sweep.

The most encouraging sign about this was seeing out starting pitchers battle out there. They all gave up at least 5 runs, but they got the team deep into the game and got the job done. It is far too early to say this team is playoff bound, or world series bound, but this was certainly sweep success for one weekend in April.
