Welcome to town Randy

txrandymossap.jpg

The Patriots are set to acquire yet another star player. Randy Moss is coming to Foxboro.

This is absolutely incredible, to get a player with his ability for merely a 4th round pick is great. New England has had success bringing in bad boys and turning them around. It happened with Rodney Harrison and Corey Dillon. Now it is about to happen with Randy Moss. The Patriots get rid of Deion Branch they pick up a 1st round pick and get a better receiver the next year.

They parly their 2nd 1st round pick into SF 1st round next year, a likely top 10 pick. The New England Patriots just play a different game than all other teams. They are just smarter. That is why they will raise another Vince Lombardi trophy this season. God Bless the Patriots.

Blood or No Blood that is the question…

                                                        images7.jpg

The controversy continues was Curt Schilling’s sock blood or was it paint. Gary Thorne claims the blood was painted on, the entire Red Sox organiztion claims it was not.

This is a difficult story to understand, Gary Thorne is a national broadcaster for ESPN for several sports and is one of the most professional play-by-play men in the business. It seems unlikely that he would make something like this up, guess here is when Mirabelli and him discussed this it was taken out of context. Perhaps, Mirabelli was joking and Thorne took it as fact. The problem is the Red Sox are ailinated and this will certainly come up next time Thorne does an ESPN Red Sox broadcast.

The other issue at play is ESPN is distancing themselves from Thorne, will their be any fallout from this incident, time will tell.

So long Sebastian

04or.jpg

The Sebastian Telfair era will go down as one of the worst in recent Celtics history. This guy is an awful player, he is a shoot first point guard who can’t shoot. The Celtics will cut ties with him shortly after yet another off the court incident.

This guy was just a terrible player and everyone in the NBA knew that, yet Danny Ainge decided he was worth the #7 overall pick in the NBA draft last June. The Celtics could have had Randy Foye, but instead they got Telfair. Now he is being cut loose only 11 months after being acquired. It amazes me how Danny Ainge gets a free pass all the time. He is not a good GM he never will be. He does not acquire elite talent. The only thing that will save the Celtics is May 22 the ping-pong balls showing the Celtics with pick #1 or 2 in the NBA draft.

Sweep Success

 1177293901_2824.jpg

Let me preface this blog by saying I expected a sweep. For the Red Sox to finally beat out the Yankees for the division crown they needed to do this.  Two out of three wins was not good enough. Not is this series not with these pitching match-ups. It was not east, but a sweep is a sweep and it was a badly needed one.

This series was a war as most Red Sox/Yankees series are. It started with the improbable So 5-run rally off the Yankees bullpen including the incredible Mariano Rivera and ended with much maligned 2nd basemen Dustin Pedroia making a game-saving catch paving the way for Jonathan Papelbon to force a ground out by A-Rod to secure the sweep.

The most encouraging sign about this was seeing out starting pitchers battle out there. They all gave up at least 5 runs, but they got the team deep into the game and got the job done. It is far too early to say this team is playoff bound, or world series bound, but this was certainly sweep success for one weekend in April.

That’s another ABOMB from A-RODDDD

070410_arod_vmed_8phmedium.jpg

I will be the first to admit I want the Red Sox to get Alex Rodriguez so badly this off-season. I have been enamored with him since the off-season the Sox almost had him, but let their arch rival swoop in at the last second because they coughed up a few extra million dollars. What this man is doing this month is incredible, but is it that much of a surprise, I say No.

Last night he continued his torrid start by knocking two out of the park at Fenway. If Alex stays healthy this season he will get to 60 home runs. The problem over the last few years for Rodriguez is he was not having fun, now he is and this means a lot of balls will be heading into the seats. One of the reasons Rodriguez is having such a big year is this is technically a free agent year. We all know athletes always play at their peak when money is on the line.

Baseball fans enjoy what you are watching because Rodriguez is going to break Barry Bonds home run record 7-10 years from now and their is no controversy over his use of performance enhancing drugs.  When he breaks the record I hope he is wearing a Red Sox uniform because this is a man on a mission and, by the way the Sox have a hole at 3rd base this off-season.

Where’s the ethics?

I have been following the news coverage and seeking answers for the tragedy at Virginia Tech just like millions of other people across the world. This disturbing message sent out by this deranged killer just send more information into how screwed up this man’s life was.

For any normal person this act is despicable wrong and shameful, but Cho Seung-Hui thought he was serving a higher purpose with this awful killing. By sending his manifesto to NBC they had a choice with how to handle it. They handled the situation wrong in my opinion. They have the blood of 32 innocent victims on their hands for the way they have glorified theses murders. I have no issue with NBC using the manifesto for commercial gain, any news organization would do the same thing, but to stamp NBC news on every document that is being used to discuss the incident is awful. Where is the moral standard in journalism? Where is the integrity? Where is the trust they are supposed to show to the people? The answer is the only thing that matters is ratings and money. NBC just like every other news organization does not care all that matters is the bottom line. Now NBC has those innocent victims blood on their hands and I hope they are able to sleep ok at night because of that. I know I wouldn’t be able to.

Senseless deaths

041607_shooting2.jpg

After hearing the shocking news of the tragedy at Virginia Tech I am extremely taken back. My best friend, who I have known since I was 5 years old attends school in Blacksburg. I cannot begin to describe my emotions as I watch this story develop. Why would any person kill another, ever further what is the motive to kill all these innocent bystanders.

This is a friendly state school campus and to have this tragedy happen is unbelievable. This is the worst mass killing in US history.  What motivates anybody to take the life of an innocent person, it is shameful and one of the most painful things I can remember. Most likely this was a student who committed the shootings and I’m sure it was quite easy to bring the weapons on to campus. It is easy to bring weapons on to any campus. At my school at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut they pride themselves on being a safe campus, but I know if a person wanted to bring a weapon to campus they could quite easily.

Thank God my friend is alright and is not harmed, but this event should allow all people to sit back and take a look at procedure for checking and allowing people on campus. After 9/11 security changed greatly for air flights, will it change now at campuses nation wide. That is the million dollar question. As for now my hopes and prayers are with the students, friends and families of those associated with Virginia Tech. We can only hope for answers and hope for the best. What a senseless act of killing it is a sad day and it is a moment I will never forget.

What’s the deal with Greg Oden?

images6.jpg

What is going on with Greg Oden, that is a question which takes some thought. First his father comes out and tells the media Greg is going to the NBA.  After that his agent if he does go pro teamate Mike Conley Jr’s father tells the media Oden has not decided yet. This is just an absolute mess that need to be resolved. As a Celtics fan who hasn’t seen a good team since the Antoine Walker, Paul Pierce combo got us to the Eastern Conference Finals this decision by Oden is so critical. The Celtics clinched the 2nd worst record in the NBA, which gives them a strong chance to secure the #1 or #2 overall pick. Those two picks will be Durant and Oden if he declares.

There are two franchise players in the draft and I hope that the Celtics can secure one of them. Greg Oden could certainly improve his game by staying in school, but with all that money waiting for him what is the need. Oden would be a top 5 center in the league right now. Thad Motta Ohio States coach did not utilize Oden, his offense was all about 3-pointers and not developing the post game. Greg Oden has to make a decision before April 29th, which is the deadline to declare. For all of Celtics nation we are hoping and praying he declares and the ping-pong balls treat us well come May 22nd.

Entourage the ultimate young persons TV show

images5.jpg

HBO had two of their most popular shows come back on the same night this past Sunday and what a night it was for the #1 premium TV network. Their hit show Entourage came on after the long time hit and emmy award winning Sopranos. This got me thinking Entourage is the ultimate young person’s television show.

This show describes the life on an up and coming superstar in Hollywood. The star Vincent Chase has three of his best friend from home hanging with him and partying it up in California. They party all the time and have all the money they could ever want. They have the life every young person envies.

Several reviewers knock the show for its lack of development of characters. The show certainly could use more substance, but the show is meant to please and interest people mostly in their teens and 20’s. If that is the criteria the show is doing quite well. The one issue I do have which this  critic agrees with is the series needs more forward plot to excite me for future years. One thing is for certain though, millions of young people would love to have the chance to be part of this Entourage.

The Sopranos are back!!

sopranos2.jpg

The highly anticipated return of the HBO hit series “The Sopranos” went off this past Sunday night. I have to say I was pleased with the episode. It provided laughs, drama, deaths and the unforgettable brawl between Bobby and Tony. I am still shocked Bobby won that fight and so is this guy.

The series is in its sixth and final season. I am excited to see how the series unfolds. I think when we look back at televison shows of the 90’s and 2000’s The Sopranos will be one of the most influential series’s. It is important on so many different levels. This critic feels creator David Chase made this episode low key because he does not want to draw the audience in to quickly. The audience begins to understand Tony wants a low key more calm existence in life, but will he ever have that or will it be too late. The next eight episodes of Sopranos should be exciting and I could not be more excited.
